New vehicle sales in Mexico up 1.9 percent in December

New vehicle sales in Mexico rose 1.9 percent, year-over-year, in December to 146,365 units. Considering only the month of December of each year, 2024 is the highest volume in the last seven years, according to a SteelOrbis analysis of data from the national statistics agency Inegi.

Of the total sales, five companies accounted for 57.2 percent: Stellantis (Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep and Ram) 7.1 percent of the total; Toyota (7.4 percent), Volkswagen (12.6 percent), General Motors (13.5 percent) and Nissan (17.7 percent).

Of the 31 main brands, 17 increased their sales, 13 decreased and one has no comparison data. Among those that increased their sales are Great Wall Motor (236 percent), Lincoln (103 percent), Isuzu (80 percent) and Land Rover (21 percent). Among those that decreased their sales are Chirey (32 percent), Subaru (38 percent), Renault (50 percent), Jetour (50 percent) and Jaguar (89 percent).

Companies with a positive balance sold 92,163 units (63.0 percent of the total), 11.8 percent more than in December of last year. Those that were in negative territory sold 53,990 units, 11.8 percent less.

From January to December, 1.50 million units were sold, 9.8 percent or 133,092 more vehicles compared to the entire year of 2023. This sales volume is also the highest in the last seven years.
